I and many others have been where you are. Maybe you're not at "rock bottom" but you drink when you don't want to (or when you've promised you wouldn't). The zone between moderation and rock bottom is called Gray Area Drinking and it can be your turning point.
Using proven techniques and the science of Affective Liminal Psychology, you too can learn to make alcohol (or any other unwanted substance or habit) small and irrelevant in your life. What does it mean for alcohol to be small and irrelevant? For me it means FREEDOM to be with friends who drink, or in places where alcohol is served, or to be quiet at home, or upset, or sad, or lonely, or ecstatically celebrating and never think about drinking because I no longer believe it brings anything of value to my life.
You don't have to be somber, serious, or a joyless recluse just because you choose to take a break from or stop drinking alcohol. It's no joke, your life can change in wonderful ways you hadn't even imagined. Rather than using alcohol to escape your life, embrace the possibility of creating a life from which you don't wish to escape.
Relying on alcohol to manage stress is one of the greatest risk factors for alcohol use disorder. The belief that drinking alcohol reduces stress is common. Studies show that alcohol use disorder has increased significantly among US healthcare workers, especially since the COVID-19 pandemic.
